Question 1: What’s your two to three sentence bio? (You know, what the heck do you do?)
I'm the happy mother of two adorable, little boys (see how cute they are?) and a graphic, web & stationery designer. I own and operate a small letterpress studio from my home and spend my days designing and chasing little boys around the house.
Question 2: What’s your favorite part of your job?I'm going to cheat and tell you two because one isn't really part of my job but it's because of my job that I can spend time with my boys. That's always been extremely important to me and I intended early on in my career to build my business so I could work at home with them. The other part is that I LOVE TO DRAW and I get to do that pretty much all day long and that is, as my son, John Patrick, would say, marvelous!
Question 3: What’s your least favorite part of your job?I would have to say that the least favorite part of my job is the business end of things. Stuff like accounting and sales and all that. I would just love to sit at my desk all day and draw, play with colors and print but then there's that other side of business.
Question 4: What are the top three tools you use the most in your work?My awesome MacBook Pro, my incredible Wacom Tablet and my beautiful and constant press, Charlotte!
Question 5: What business goal would you love to reach before the end of the year?I would love to grow my email list. Now that I'm a little more comfortable with sending out emails to my list, I'd like to have more people to send them to. Wanna get one and help me reach my goal? Sign up right here!
Question 6: Who are three creatives that inspire you?Molly Jacques, Anna Bond and Bonnie Christine.
Question 7: What do you listen to (if anything) while you work?Harry Potter audio books ALL. DAY. LONG.
Question 8: Morning person or night owl?Complete Night Owl.
Question 9: How many employees do you have and what are the main things they do for you?I recently took on one of my best friends on an "as-needed" basis. I'm actually very excited about this as it is mutually beneficial. She works when she's got a chance and I get some extra help. I'm really looking forward to the day when I can have her come on full time!
Question 10: What’s your favorite social media platform?Instagram, hands down. Not only is it instantly gratifying with visuals that hit you immediately, but it's ridiculously simple to update and keep your feed fresh. Believe me, with two little boys running around, I CRAVE simplicity.
Question 11: What’s your least favorite social media platform?I would have to agree with April and say LinkedIn. I don't really ever go in there and I'm not exactly sure what to do with it really unless I'm specifically in the market for a job.
Question 12: What works best when it comes to marketing your business?I'm not really sure, still trying to figure it out. Help is seriously appreciated!
Question 13: What’s one thing about your business that your blog readers probably don’t know?
Last year I SERIOUSLY considered not offering personal stationery anymore. With letterpress, changing a color on the press is a big task and not something that is done quickly. I was tired of the millions of colors I was having to switch to while not making much money. After a chat with business coach Jess Lively, she convinced me that it wasn't the personal stationery that was making me unhappy but the way I was doing it. So we made some changes and now personal stationery is what I make most on!
Question 14: If your business were a fashion accessory, what would it be?This lovely scarf. Beautifully designed in bright colors, warm, inviting and cozy, one that you keep wanting to come back to again and again.
Question 15: What’s your top tip for someone who wants to do something similar to you for a career?
Build yourself a library. Before you can even begin to create you can start to invest in your business by learning. Books, books, books! Books for design inspiration, books for learning about your art and books to help you run your business.
